AmpliPhi Biosciences Announces UK Grant Award to develop its Novel Antimicrobial Technology
AmpliPhi Biosciences Corporation (Other OTC: APHB.PK) is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, Biocontrol Ltd., has been awarded UK Government Funding through the Technology Strategy Board for research and development using genomics-based technologies. As part of the £4.5 million (U.S. $7.3 million), eleven project initiative, this specific project will fund a consortium of five industrial and academic partners led by Unilever PLC (NYSE: UL). During the three year program of research, AmpliPhi Biosciences will exploit novel genomic information to develop next generation, specific, natural antimicrobials for use in the personal care industry.
“We are pleased to be part of this focused initiative to advance innovative genomic research and development. Our inclusion in this research consortium reflects strongly on the quality of the scientific team that our CSO, Dr David Harper, has been building, including Professor Mark Enright, who was instrumental in establishing our credentials and relationship with Unilever,” said Edward Cappabianca, CEO of AmpliPhi Biosciences. “We anticipate that the information we gain during the execution of this project will contribute significantly to our knowledge base of how to develop novel antimicrobial products for the general market, and in turn help to advance our development of human therapeutics to treat bacterial infections.”
